Laser Measurement System

The new generation of lighting with LED´s has put the measurement systems to new challenges. The LED as light source behaves differently than the classic light as the light output decreases with temperature and life time. Therefore the source needs to be temperature stabilized and controlled to obtain reasonable measurement data and this is only one of the challenges!

The LCS-100 LED measurement system is a fast and accurate system to measure single LEDs overall flux and spectra. The basic system comes with a 2” integrating sphere, integrated calibration source with calibration certificate, constant current power supply, diode array spectrometer and measurement software. The system is equipped with 2 neutral density filters (ND1 and ND2) to decrease the intensity of light to the detector and have an extended measurement range. If this is not sufficient, the system can be attached to a 6” integrating sphere to measure high power LEDs and other sources. Additional accessories are the condition A and B tubes, for luminous intensity measurements according to CIE recommendations.

As the demand for goniometric data has increased over the last years, the LED LCS Series has been extended with a small goniometer unit to obtain angular information. With an angular resolution of 12° polar (manual) and 2° azimuth (computer controlled) the user obtains a well resolved radar plot of the intensity distribution and spectra for evaluation. There are different LED specific sample holders available (cooled/uncooled version).

For the measurement of LED cluster/modules or larger light sources big integrating spheres are needed. The general equipment of an integrating sphere based measurement system is a dedicated integrating sphere coated with optical diffuse reflectance coating and precise interior baffling, calibrated light source (2 π or 4 π) with constant current power supply and calibration certificate, absorption correction lamp  and a detector system, either Spectrometer or photodiodes.

Based on these standard configurations, there are several specialized, dedicated light measurement systems such as the illumia® system . The illumia®pro system includes an additional element to cool/stabilize the light source sample during the measurement or doing dedicated experiments on different constant temperatures over time. The software then reports luminous or spectral flux over time versus current or temperature. Different long term studies are implemented as standard measurements in the software settings. Standard sizes for these systems are 20, 40, 65 and 76” Integrating spheres.

Through the development of more size increasing illumination systems the demand for big integrating spheres increased as well and integrating spheres of the size of 2-3m became a standard. As a sphere of this size can cause problems for normal sized laboratories there was a new product development working with half a sphere only. The new Half-Moon-Sphere principal uses a hemisphere coated with highly diffuse reflectance paint and an optical mirror to simulate a full sphere. This principle was designed to save laboratory space and also simplify mounting of flat emitting devices such as OLEDs and Displays. An additional advantage is for LEDs working with big cooling devices as those can be kept outside the sphere. Please contact us directly for further information.

Complementary to the spectral flux data acquisition, SphereOptics GmbH has a cooperation with the company Radiant Imaging Inc. covering the field of imaging colorimetry as well. Radiant Imaging is known for their versatile range of CCD based color- and luminance cameras and extended systems such as goniometric measurement systems. Laser Power Measurement

No matter if collimated of divergent Lasers sources, Labsphere offers a wide range of standardized Laser power measurement systems for the wavelength range from 300 nm to 1800 nm and 15uW up to 200W. Depending on the output power of the Laser and the wavelength region of interest different coatings can be applied. For near IR applications Gold coating is the coating of choice, for most VIS applications Barium Sulfate or sintered PTFE is used. The user can choose from a broad selection of detectors and customize the system according to his requirements (Sandwich detectors are available as well).
